Not a rerun of the 1930's but it is a natural culmination of modern US foreign policy.  One month from today marks the start of the US illegal invasion of Iraq. Since then the US has ignored chemical weapon use in Syria, watched Crimea be annexed, left Afghans at the mercy of the Taliban, turned a blind eye to horrific human rights abuse in Saudi...and on and on.

With the US 'pick and choose' attitude to foreign affairs (Libya - no, Syria - yes) it is simply not trusted.  Look no further than the Global South's key players refusal to condemn Putin's Ukraine invasion.  The US does not hold a moral mandate. 

The beginning of the end to this will not come from the US but it might from the Chinese peace plan - no matter how much the US would want it to be otherwise.

There are many differences - a one key being the utter irrelevance of the UK - laid bare after Brixit.  The UK economy is stuffed.  Its continued role in world politics exists mostly in delusions carried over from their former grandeur.  The UK lacks the means to make any real military intervention on foreign soil.
