I quite like the idea of members indicating their opinion of where the share price can go....in either direction. That is for the most part the bottom line that we care about when investing. This is not the same as providing financial advice. There are members here that are great analysts, or accountants, or medium term or short term traders. Then there are also members that seem to be passionately involved in this (or ay other) industry (industry specialists), others with long term  share ownership views; the list goes on. All these  types play a role in understanding the share movement better, amongst other things.

Obviously I think the concept of attacking the person on here is a no no, but good robust debate and discussion helps each other a lot more than simply everyone being yes men/ women/ people for the sake of being kind. It also shows a bit character and displays a personality rather than a bland forum.

These differences of opinion have made me question some of my own ideas and thoughts on certain stocks and I am hopeful this will continue, not only on OCA but everywhere on this forum.

Obviously we all want and hope our shares will ultimately go up in price but constant downramping and trash talking a stock over a long period of time once you have made your point is very negative and not helpful except to that persons ego.

Well, that's the thing isn't it. Trash talking the stock and trash talking the person is not the same thing. The share market is dynamic, what was valid 2 years, 2 months, even 2 days ago may have changed, or not. Some do not like the financials of the stock and explain why, others like the stock regardless of current industry headwinds because it is an important business and explain why. (And this opinion is also repeated by the way) I am interested to hear both. That's how we learn.

Yes and no. I agree that it should be possible to talk about ones ideas about future price development ... and if people give good reasoned price targets (no matter, whether they are based on FA (like e.g. x times avg EPS) or TA (like e.g. upper boundary of current price range) - as long as the base for the forecast is disclosed, then I agree they add value.

What concerns me sometimes is posters just throwing around with random phantasy numbers without giving a reason for them (like - this number is absolutely pointless, I just made it up). This is often just teasing / ramping and well might result in novices who still believe these so called gurus making the wrong decisions.

If it makes any one feel better, Fisher Funds just burnt $80m on Signature Bank, claiming that they couldnt see it coming.  But the chart said different.
So here's the lesson, a basic TA overlay to guide exits and entries, gets you out of the really shit stocks.  Its that simple.  The market teaches expensive lessons - both in FA and in TA.  We've all been there, done that, lost money.  However, the smart people don't pay twice  8)

See my Momentum Investing thread on the ASX for more info (shameless plug, as in shame I dont make any money from it lol, I'm just here to save yours!)
Don't drink and buy shares in a downtrend, you bloody idiot.

Mr Buffett may welcome an email from you offering him some advice but then again I don't think so.

Guess you've never heard Mr Buffet's rules?
"Rule No. 1: Never lose money. Rule No. 2: Never forget rule No. 1."

Hope yet for a get out of jail card

In the media-
Merger and acquisition activity in Australia sparked the retirement village sector here. US investment firm Bain Capital has made a A$775m (NZ$829m) takeover offer for aged-care provider Estia Health at $3 a share, a 28% premium to its latest price of A$2.66.

A buck a share for OCA might be welcome

No way, OCA isn't in trouble and a buck a share wouldn't get me out of bed! It wouldn't excite the insiders who hold a large number of shares either.

A buck a share wouldn't even get any attention, maybe 100% premium on current price would perk up a bit of interest.

Estia share price was about $2.00 last week ...rumours pushed it up a bit but news of takeover pushed share price to $2.67 today.

So offer at $3.00 essentially a 50% premium

Maybe $1.20 on same basis for OCA

estia  market cap similar to OCA

Lowest volume i have ever seen so far today with this stock, perhaps end of month rebalancing is going to be big tomorrow.
