Nobody can predict the future, but we all can identify possible scenarios based on parallels in history ... and yes, one doesn't even need to go back to the Romans to see parallells to whats happening at the moment.

Want to see how fast and effective one can turn a democracy into an autocracy: Look at the last decade in Turkey (looks like they are ready for the next step) or Hungary (still lingering) - or look at what happened in Germany during the 1930íes (they did the full monty). All these things happening now again in the US.

Want to see how trade wars lead into a global depression and culminated later in a world war? Just look at the fast rising tariff wars in the 1920íes and 1930íes creating and maintaining the Great Depression and leading into WW2? Well, Dump just restarted this process.

Want to analyse the start of similar military operations spanning the globe (sometimes called as well world wars)? Again, look no further then the isolationist stance of one of the big players (US) prior to WW2. The giant only came out of its navel gazing mode after Pearl Harbour.

I don't think that predicting the rise of a bunch of autocratic blocks around the earth suppressing their subjects is pessimistic, and neither is the prediction of a significant military event between them. It clearly is a realistic scenario. Whether we get there, or whether we are lucky to dodge the bullet is another question, but for luck you need the optimists.
