I bought them because it was cheaper to buy Skt shares than get a subscription to a comedy show so I could follow the adventures of mistatea and his sidekick Ogg.
After the fire I still hope with the small div and small capital return I can at least buy a small popcorn.

Sky Pod for VodafoneTV customers

You might hear about another new Sky product in the coming days, and I want to let you know why we've created it.

There are a number of Kiwis who enjoy Sky via VodafoneTV, which is closing soon. VodafoneTV is an IP-only service meaning its customers access Sky through their internet service rather than via satellite.

To meet their needs, we've developed Sky Pod, a portable little device that enables access to Sky TV and streaming apps without the need for a satellite dish, but it doesn't include any recording capability.

While the first phase of the Sky Pod rollout is for VodafoneTV customers, given their immediate need for an alternative solution, we'll be looking to offer it more widely in the future and will keep you informed.


In closing, I am aware that in recent months some customers have experienced delays when getting in touch with our Sky Crew. If this was your experience, please accept my apology, I'm pleased the team have worked hard to improve our service levels in recent weeks. I am grateful for your patience and assure you we remain focused in supporting our crew in this space.

Yeah man, I can't see existing MySky holders being keen to fork out $200 for the box. Their 'limited supplies' will be more than ample to meet the demand I think!

That is 13 months of MYSKY fee upfront - people will think twice i suspect, especially because it is not known whether or not the new box is as reliable as MYSKY. (Spoiler: it won't be).

Sophie alludes to some 'special offers' to existing subs that they will get in contact about 'soon'. Unless they are giving the box away, they need not fear running out of them!

The baby boomer generation aren't going to fork out $200 for a new box that requires them to re-learn a new UI not to mention lose all their recorded shows.

Just lol at the thought of some under 35 year old actually wanting this for Christmas!

Target market is likely wealthy 40 year old's with disposable income who perhaps have younger family members. Very small subset of customers.

Look, it's good that this box is coming out and there is a need for it but this an't no "FIX" for the company's long term challenges. chips re 5 year old already. A newer box is probably already in production. It might make people with older boxes want to move on with something else!

Long standing STB customers will probably be offered the box for free. But those long standing subs (5 years+ I assume) are less likely to want it.

One of the comments on stuff from a poster named 'nargled' sums it up I think:

they want to charge customers to upgrade again to another so called improvement for their normal service ? and $200 ? really.
Sky - you should be giving out the box to all your customers for free - this is part of having a "service" . And by the looks, this box only does the same things as a myriad of other streaming boxes already do. By now the shift to smart tvs has probably moved well forward for more and more who use their routers and wifi and streaming boxes or subscriptions and all that must be almost ubiquitous....
Sky, you are out of step with what "service" means.
You should install these boxes as a matter of course to every customer - that is part of the Sky TV business model problem and always has been form what it seems.
This might be one more way, for Sky to further alienate its customers - well done Sky
