I am continually reflecting on my investments, weighting etc.

And for Sky I continue to sit tight and see what they serve up on August 25.

Whether I sell all, some or none of my shares this year will depend on a number of things.

But I am not wedded to Sky either - if, after the FY results/AGM etc I find that I no longer see eye to eye with Management then of course selling is an option.

Why wouldn't it be?

Yeah but imagine buying Foxtel on that back of those results?

Sky has cash but Foxtel's has a better market position in streaming and Australia is 10x better than NZ!

If you're not buying Foxtel you're not buying Sky NZ

Yes, nobody is buying Sky TV.

Buying Sky because of the AFR takeover rumors and also the capital management plan is the only logical reason.

Just lol at buying/holding this stock for any other reason!

Made use of the rally to sell some today, felt it was too risky having such a large weighting in this one. Reckon the results have good chance to start a rally (if they haven't already started one) but afraid of getting crushed by possibly bad forward guidance. No doubt this will mean a $5 per share takeover offer is inbound just to spite me, but can't go broke taking profits right :o

Reminds me of Alpha selling out a few days before the stock jumped 40% on increased guidance

Hey I only sold just over a third. I'll still be happy if it pops off at results, just slightly less  ::)

A bit of a non-story at this stage tbh.

As per my comments on ST:

Just speculation that Warner will cut Sky out of the equation altogether.

We renewed and expanded our deal with Warner just last year: https://www.nzx.com/announcements/378056

8 months before that we renewed with Discovery on a co-exclusive basis: https://www.nzx.com/announcements/364535

Sky will have access to HBO/Discovery content for years to come...and it is a big assumption that Warner-Discovery will cut Sky TV out of the equation altogether in years to come when the current deals expire.

Not defending anybody mate. Just sharing the facts.

It could be that Warner-Discovery decide to go OTT and cut Sky out in the future.

But that is years away, and a big IF. Huge assumption to make that Warner-Discovery will cut Sky out altogether.

If they think their service is 'meaty' enough to attract enough subs to generate more revenue than they get from Sky, then sure. But you have to get a huge amount of subs to sign up and pay month in and month out before that equation begins to look favourable.

I suspect Sky will hang on to the rights on a co-exclusive basis. They will try to keep some of the HBO stuff exclusive if they can. But it is all just speculation right now.

Bro, Disney have already gone the OTT path and it won't be long until WBD goes down that path too. WBD have been held up with their merger over the last year and need another year to complete everything. By 2024-2025 they will be looking to go direct. Same with Comcast, as Peacock is being rolled out in Australia already and then NZ likely next.

The only question is weather WBD or Comcast buy Sky to pick up the Neon customers or if they decide to grow organically from scratch like Disney. However, it's so easy to pick up streaming customers that it seems pointless to buy Sky, unless it's super cheap like Lightbox was. The only value in Sky is the set top customers but that's backward looking and comes with legacy problems (customer service etc.). Besides, Comcast are pretty much giving away a free TV (Sky Glass) instead of a set top box now and most TVs now have all software built in.

Sky NZ as a media aggregator is safe for only a few more years, and that's only because NZ is a small market and hence the last to be rolled out. Sky is also strong in sports, so it's likely to be relevant until NZRU rights gets renewed but next rights will likely costs $$$$$!!!

Point is, how long can the set top box customers support the "house of cards"! Looking at Foxtel results it's clear that chord cutting is still happening at a meaningful rate and that the growth in streaming is slowing because of all the fragmentation in the industry.

All it takes is for Amazon or DANZ to come in and throw silly money at rugby and it's good night nurse for Sky!![/size=3]

Mysterion

Spark Sport only is dying because the parent company (Spark) don't have deep enough pockets to keep up in the long term.

The danger is that WBD could buy Spark Sport and then rebrand that into WBD Sports then make a bid for 2025 NZRU rights!!

In otherwords, what could be a positive for Sky (Spark Sport dying) could be a real negative!
