Quote from: LoungeLizard on Aug 11, 2022, 05:26 PMThat's a pretty optimistic scenario posed by Craigs's - 50 cps return now and 22.5cps thereafter. If that came to pass - and I seriously doubt it will - it would give the SP such a boost that I'm pretty sure there would be a big sell off from new and old shareholders alike. Who amongst us wouldn't sell if the SP did climb to over $3? I certainly would.
As noted, SKYS prospects for future growth or even treading water, is very doubtful given the Boards proven record of incompetence to deal with the storm clouds that are gathering on the horizon. And if the SP did bounce to that sort of level then a takeover becomes less likely. Again, who amongst us would really want to spend any more years riding the SKY rollercoaster?
No, I think if there's a reasonable payout and a resulting boost in the SP then cashing up either before the payout or immediately thereafter is the way to go. Just hope no-one gets trampled in the rush for the exit door.

50cps very doable this year.

22.5cps optimistic I agree, but a $40M payout from next year would still be within their 50%-80% FCF payout policy. Guidance for next years earnings would confirm.

If shareholders can see a way forward with healthy dividends then they may stick around for future dividends. Hopefully nobody gets trampled to death if your prediction of everyone rushing for the exit at the same time comes true!

I - and many others - would love for you to be right and 50 cps comes our way this year. That's a big bundle for those of us with a decent portfolio. Just that I doubt the Sky board will be that generous. They have seemed almost pathologically averse to returning capital, and although they are committed to returning some this time, I don't see it being as much as some think. I'm anticipating something like a 10 cps dividend plus a 25c special. 20cps per year is do-able should they maintain current profitability.

All well and good if the above comes to pass, but then...what next? Like Ogg, I don't see a viable future for SKY even beyond the next couple of years. I rather suspect that this is as good as it gets.

I don't disagree - the board have given us little reason to believe they will be generous.

And I am not predicting a 50cps divvy - just stating that it is doable.

Would love to be pleasantly surprised by a divvy of that magnitude, but am not holding my breath.

QuoteNeon has one big advantage: time. By 2024, it will be nearly 10 years old. A lot of goodwill has built up over that time. But savvy switching is a major riddle streamers are yet to solve, and as the cost-of-living crisis bites, it's likely to get worse.

As one local creator told me recently, content remains king. If HBO does what seems inevitable and pulls its library from local streaming services, Sky and Neon could be left fighting for scraps.

In other words: Takeover or die!

Imagine if Sky lost both HBO and NZRU in 2025

Jones TV only content left...

I wonder what Sky's satellite subs are like with businesses ie pubs, hotels ect. Stable? Spoke to a motel today that has about 20 rooms and pays 18k a year to Sky and is thinking of getting rid of it as they've raised their prices $200 more per month for them. The big hotels must be paying a fair bit unless they've got some negotiating power.

Subscribed to DAZN for one month to watch the AJ Vs Uysk fight.

Only NZD $14.99 which is good value for a PPV event which can normally run up to $40 for a single viewing.

Stream quality was average. Very watchable but dropped out a few times and became pixelated. Didn't seem like it was 60fps or above 1080. Looked to me like 720p.

Had a look around to see what else was on there besides boxing. Basically "f all". Some Red Bull videos and some women's soccer. Lot of shilling of MMA!

I canceled my membership straight after the fight. However, technically I'm a member and on their "books" and now I'm familiar with their system. In other words it's a foot in the door for them.

Big day tomorrow. Good luck to all holders. There hasn't, to my knowledge, been any leaks as to what to expect - and the pundits are all over the place guessing how generous the board is going to be. I'm thinking somewhere in the middle - a 10c divvy and 25c special. I think the market would react reasonably favourably to that.
