Sideshow Bob

Quote from: LoungeLizard on Nov 14, 2023, 09:40 AMGood point. But they are committed - we think - to buying back 7m shares by 31/3. Not many people are buying SKY, principally because of the cloak and dagger way the Board operate, so I can't see how a 7m buyback is not going to affect the SP.

Can buy a max of $15m worth and up to a maximum of 8.7m shares (to do both would be averaging $1.72).

Does he think another offer is coming along??

Buzz

Maybe he thinks the company is and will do very well from now, the turnaround is happening and we're back to profit and decent dividends. This talk (hope) of a takeover, is imo over stated.

Focus, on the facts and the reality of the real situation of the company, back to profit, paying out to their owners, a bright future ahead. This is not some subterfuge.

The meme's and naysayers are suspiciously silent. They've been proven wrong, to their own investing detriment.

Proven wrong, eh?  That's an early and  a strong call!  I'm not sure that a bright future is a fact, sound more like an opinion.  Murky would be my preferred adjective.

All rosy with SKY?  Hmmm, what's that flying overhead...up there in the SKT..

I bailed ages ago well in the green! The stock price pre NBIO is barely up since then. There's been a few "taxable" dividends but who cares. No regrets here. The long term outlook has deteriorated. If it wasn't for the buy back you wouldn't even know there was a takeover. Truth is that it's been a takeover target for years but large grandpa shareholders deep in the red don't want to part ways and management are happy with the monthly pay check so the sh*t show continues. If anything it just proves that this stock is nothing but a takeover specy, that's all it's got going for it. There's no future here as a stand alone entity. It's going the way of Mediaworks and all the other shitty NZ media companies. It will be bought out most likely. Only question is when and how much. Dangerous game though, returns will go higher but risk increases. Sooner or later music stops and shareholders are left with this dog. Just gotta hope that management can execute a transaction on good terms like when Telecom sold Yellowpages! I wouldn't hold my breath. You're not gonna get rich on this stock unless you go in big and get the takeover. There is no good news coming. Just same old BS. Unless you have inside knowledge to all the big players doing the big deals behind the scenes then you're just gambling. You could hold this dog for another year or two, sell out, then BANG, takeover hits the next day and you've missed out all dem gainz! Or, hold for years seeing this turd slowing flush down the toilet. This isn't f*cking stock investing it's spin the wheel and hope for a rescue! 90% of shareholders are underwater, it's only the luck few who got in post covid that are doing OK. Even then most are only up a few peps. Nothing to brag about. Seriously, this stock is a waste of time and should be delisted. Media only publish negative newstories on it. Customers hate it. Look at the shareholder meeting, most of the investors are all made and bitter. Total circus all around.

How do Bowman and Sophie get away with purchasing shares when they (and Institutions) have a piece of privileged information that small shareholders don't - namely the price of the takeover offer? Surely this should be disclosed to everyone? I mean if you knew for sure that SKT were offered $3.70, you'd firstly be spitting tacks that they turned it down, but then you might be inclined to buy more yourself. Information is power and those in the know can use that information to their advantage. So frustrating that NZX seems to think that it's ok to allow institutional holders and small shareholders to be treated differently.

There's probably like 1000 people that know! Sky management. The buyer management. Their lawyers and accountants. NZX regulatory people. Jupitar, ACC and all the sophisticated investors, plus all their desk people. Then they've told a bunch of people like the The Australian Financial review and the Australian reporters etc. It's probably already filtered down to regular Sky employees by now. Also people from the OIO office, plus likely some politicians like Minister for Broadcasting and Media. List goes on.

Everyone knows but you boyo!

All we have is a report in an Australian newspaper, and that was speculative at best. The rest is hearsay. I don't doubt SKT Management, Insitutions and maybe a few brokers know for sure, but no-one else does, certainly not rank and file shareholders. I mean, who would be foolhardy enough to buy SKY shares based on a rumour of a takeover, hey????

LoungeLizard

And another thought - if so many know anyway, then why not just make it public and be done with it?

The way insiders are buying since 'rejecting' some would say another offer is coming soon .....and the insiders will with renewed vigour accept

The Board couldn't buy their own shares and then accept another offer. That's called insider trading. No, I think the takeover deal is dead, because the Board want to hang onto their jobs. The question remains - and maybe the Shareholders Association will get some answers  - why haven't they been transparent with all shareholders?
