casual look but charts across a number of sectors are roughly in line...

retail, property stocks ....

and these are all looking like they are now moving off the bottom based on the recent RBNZ and global reserve bank pivots...

Well, yes - it certainly looks like the bottom might be in. Makes sense, too.

well did retail actually  go up today.... global sell off and nothing moved

that might have been a TRA buy the di.i.p even....

HLG went up!!!!

most others were flat .... must be the bottom then.....

whole country has to improve its maths.....

no art classes how ever .... well wonder if drawing pastel charts in math class can take on a whole new meaning?

Its a cut !!!  panic...  they called it on CNBC this morning...

did you buy yesterday ? of course you did...

right they were going to cut when 2025?

Basil

I bought a decent number of ARG yesterday to add to my holding.

Some bigger buys even in the junk retails ...

instant reactions for some stocks in retail...

probably wont be inflationary as most people will use any tax cuts to more likely buy more groceries they may have been cutting back on...

or used to pay down debt...

"The most recent Retail NZ Retail Radar Survey found that 71% of members advised that they did not meet sales targets in the last quarter and 42% were not confident they would still be in business in 12 months' time."

Well, just listen to the RNZ - its now the darkest hour before dawn. Time to allow others to pick up the opportunities?

Stats NZ Electronic Card Spend data for July. Sales still declining

Updated this chart .... $'s of day not inflation adjusted

Of interest is Apparel sales are almost back to pre-pandemic levels

Durables are down 6% from a year ago (and fallen below trend) but still above 2019 levels

No wonder retailers in these categories are struggling

I reckon it'll still take a while for consumers to start spending more on discretionary things ..maybe if things brighten up Christmas might encourage them to splurge out.

As Peter says it's darkest before dawn ...but is 3am or 5am

I did my bit to try and help the economy along last month.  Got a shiny new Nissan X Trail e power with gorgeous tan leather interior.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3ubAuM-RgQ&t=42s  Tina bought it for me.  Said it comes with a steering wheel heater and seat heaters so I can feel her warm hug in spirit every day.  Love it, her and Turners.

Hope its a 2wd model, you townies don't need a 4x4 unless you'll going to do some true off roading or going up ski fields.

4WD mate because part of the plan in retirement is to get off the beaten track a bit, probably not skiing, my knees aren't up for that anymore.  It can shuffle torque to any one wheel and is pretty handy off road.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ACYP5hq3e-M&t=2s  Either the fuel gauge isn't working properly, or the fuel economy is absolutly nuts.  First week 580 km's and it's still showing as having half a tank of fuel left !

GDP forecasts from Orr yesterday point to a year long recession .....much worse than forecast in May

Basil

Ona per capita basis we've already been in recession for 2 years, something he seems to have conveniently ignored.
