Quote from: BlackPeter on Jun 30, 2023, 04:24 PMGood point, I wondered that as well. They say people have to skip meals and go to the foodbank and than they are able to fork out many hundreds of dollars for going to a concert. Hmm ...

Hundreds. Try thousands.  It was going to cost my sister $8k to take my two nieces to see Tay Tay.  Still tried out for tickets though, courtesy of me sitting at home all day glued to the ticketek ticket screen.  Still no joy though, and I admit I'm a bit sad about that like all the other Swifties who missed out.
Don't drink and buy shares in a downtrend, you bloody idiot.

Quote from: Basil on Jun 29, 2023, 06:18 PMJust a note of caution though. petrol tax going back on this weekend will add another 29 cents per liter and drive inflation a bit including road user charges for Trucks going back up to where it was driving transport costs up.  Yet another excuse for supermarkets, (not that they appear to need one), to increase their prices yet again....

LOL Not guilty mate but I did fill my car up on Friday.  I think what you read there is indicative of the real frustration many feel especially those who are suffering from a huge increase to their mortgage costs.

There's another side to this though and that's all the investors now getting ~ 6% on term deposit when a couple of years ago they were getting 1%.

$8K is a lot of trips to the foodbank.
She could save herself a fortune, shake it off, (all the travel costs), and watch the whole thing here for free.

Sincere request, where did you get that information, as stats nz has a different set of figures (see below).

the clue is in the word "estimated". Stats NZ makes stuff up.  Or rather their computer model makes stuff up.  I use the actual raw data from Customs NZ who physically count those entering and leaving the country.

The second clue is in the date.  There was an influx of people in late 2022 as the borders reopened.  But in March 2023 it went negative.  But the March quarter was still big due to Jan and Feb.  I await with interest Stats NZ figures for the June quarter.

So in 2022 there was a net inflow of 101,212 people.  But in 2023 to date there has been a net outflow of 43,886 people.

Nah, inflation there came in lower than expected, at 5.6% so they will probably continue with their Pause.

Kind of glad that it's dropped off, as at a 100k plus per year 2022 it's unsustainable.

Thanks for the info.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/business/132500144/prices-set-to-rise-as-retailers-battle-high-costs-and-fear-of-closure

Prices will continue to rise in the next three months as almost 60% of retailers fail to meet sales targets and others fear closure within the year.

The latest Retail Radar report from Retail NZ found many of the challenges that retailers reported last quarter had continued into the winter months, with inflation, increasing wage costs and retail crime proving stubborn.

Almost 60% of retailers did not meet their sales targets over the past three months, which was up from 44% in the previous quarter, Retail NZ's chief executive Greg Harford said.

"Much of the same outlook continues for the next three months, with half of all retailers not expecting to meet targets again in the third quarter of 2023."

Cost increases were the biggest issue keeping retailers up at night.
