France is considerring sending the Legion?

Frances forces are expeditionary with light tanks and advanced AMPHIBIOUS vessels... Ukraine is hardly suitable is it for the legion?

Actually - I am still wondering whether this exchange of shells (meat grinder) is really the best strategy. Didn't really work in WW1, didn't it? In my view they need to bring the war to Russia - and do it clever. Just bomb any Russian bridge which is used to re-supply the Russian attackers ... and return the Russian favour by bombing any Russian power stations and dams they can get hold off.

The Russians are happily bombing Ukrainian hospitals, infrastructure and power stations. Now - I don't suggest to go so low to bomb Russian hospitals in return, but for sure - infrastructure and powerstations would be fair game, wouldn't they? Putin said it is ok to bomb fascists - and given that he is the biggest of all ... we should just trust his advice.

Just give the ugly bear something useful to do: Rebuild their own infrastructure instead of attacking their neighbors ...

There's no doubt that Ukraine is on the back foot now. They've spent very little on fortifying defensive positions instead they've thrown almost everything, unsuccessfully, into pushing the Russians back. . We should have been supplying cement and steel as well as arms.

They've a problem recruiting replacement troops and many of those that are joining are only doing so because they've been press ganged and they've also lost almost all  their most experienced professional troops. It's really not looking good and now and the West, or at least France, is panicking. Putin knows the West will not supply front line troops and that Kiev will eventually fall. Maybe not this month or even this year but fall it will.

And then what?

I guess the answer is easy - the West can either re-play the pacifying game, as it did in WW II. The result at that stage (after allowing Hitler to "re-unify" with Austria, take Czechia (hey, he will stop when he took that, won't he?), take half of Poland (hey, he will stop when he took that, won't he?), take parts of France ... was the largest and deadliest war the world has seen so far (WW II - 1939 to 1945).

If we do that we will in a handful of years have to wage WW III against Putin, Xi and a handful of Wannabe tyrants and autocrats (like the dear leader of North Korea and the ayatollahs in Iran) if we allow them to get stronger and stronger.

Obviously - we could as well stop this madness now, but this would require leadership and some inconvenience now, instead of a bloodbath later.  Better avoid inconvenience, shall we? This is who we are.

Populism and the desire not to inconvenience its people is what stopped the US in 1938/9 reacting to Hitlers moves in Europe - hey, so far away, why should we care. They happily waited for Pearl Harbour (in 1941) before they started to do something about the problem.

The populist quire is getting stronger and louder again - and our children will pay for our fallacy with their blood - same as the allied soldiers in WW II gave their life because their politicians tried to pacify Hitler and the Japanese emperor instead of resisting the beginnings.

Which one will it be this time? Not sure I am too optimistic ...

Going back to some of the ancient wars did the greeks really have one thousand ships to attack troy..

The Greeks were onaly able to muster a couple of hundred in the famous battle of  Artemisium..
