Earnings downgrade

full year profit before tax $200m say but really only about $100m

Just as well they kept $95m of credits not used ...fares paid and travel not taken for things out of punters control

I'd call it theft ...criminal ...and if a shareholder ashamed of my company

Agree. Last on the list when we fly.  Government should sell out and leave to private sector in my opinion.

Basil

Making $185m in the first half but only about $20-25m in the second half and that's only because they're keeping ~$50m of Covid credits this half.  Hmmm.

I note that according to market screener the analyst consensus for their 2024 EBIT used to be already prior to this announcement at $189.5m, i.e. AIR's announcement of 190m to 230m is still optimistic.

Lets see, how many down grades will follow :) ; Wasn't the rule of thumb 3 down grades? I think this one is number 2.

Competition to North America....great for consumers.....not so great for an airline use to having routes to themselves

Wondering whether we could have some more competition through Asia as well? I hate flying the NA route to Europe ... US airports and US immigration suck.

For me good time to buy airline stocks is when there is a downgrade, oil prices stay high and trade share prices at very low prices. Remember qantas.Closely looking at this for any turnaround play?

That's what we normally do - and likely keep doing (given we have some family to visit in Singapore as well). I just hope for a bit more competition on this route to keep the prices down. Last year the Singapore Airlines ticket was still pretty steep compared to pre-Covid, and Air NZ (just selling a code shared flight on Singapore Airlines) wanted still more money. Guess whose ticket I bought :) ;

And yes - transfer as well as entry in Singapore is really easy, entry in the US on the other hand (even if you just want to transfer) a nightmare - long queues, delays, very unfriendly staff - and in LA they even use dogs to herd the passengers. I try to avoid the unfriendly so called US of A, whenever possible. Even South America (Buenos Aires) is (much) better ...

A pity Aerolíneas Argentinas does not offer anymore reasonable connections between NZ and Europe ... they did 30 years ago.

Was packed up and sent back to europe first flight to Europe in 83. AIR NZ did silver service to Singapore....

Dutch airlines from there to Amsterdam... silver service and the DC10 and the 747 days...

From that article -
Overnight German airline Lufthansa announced it would charge up to $125 more a ticket to help pay for its Saf commitments. The fuel is up to three times as expensive as traditional jet fuel.

Pretty cool eh.  Pay another $125 for your ticket and that's when Saf fuel makes up less than 1% of total consumption.  Imagine what ticket prices will be when it gets to the 20% level.  Pump that stuff that comes from China through those Rolls Royce engines...what could possibly go wrong  😉
