Sorry prob not right forum... but OMG how crap is air Nz service! Been waiting 2 months on a refund (they're stuff up). Then contacted them about another issue, again bloody nothing.

It's a NZ thing...took me 4 months and about 10 hours hassle to get an Interislander refund processed.

Auckland Airport under travel siege today apparently and sagging under the pressure..

Basil

Fuel costs must be starting to bite pretty hard with oil prices and the $Kiwi where they are.  No idea how much forward cover they have or for how long it confers a degree of protection, sorry.

Seems to be a downgrade on 'expectations' seeing no guidance had been given previously ...from market close report

Air NZ has decided not to provide earnings guidance for the current financial year due to numerous uncertainties, releasing the news ahead of its annual meeting today.

Chair Therese Walsh cited softening corporate and domestic demand recently, while international markets remained steady.

Factors affecting the airline's demand and profitability include increased international competition, volatile fuel prices, a weaker Kiwi dollar, rising wages and higher airport charges.

The airline is closely monitoring oil prices, currency exchange rates, passenger demand and global engine issues. Walsh acknowledged the strong recovery in the previous fiscal year but noted the current period's unpredictability.

"Air New Zealand has warned of major headwinds including softer demand, higher fuel prices and increased competition, a month after returning to profit following three years of losses during the pandemic.
Chief executive Greg Foran told investors at its annual meeting in Wellington on Tuesday that it will look to navigate an uncertain macroeconomic environment over the current fiscal year as it walked away from providing any earnings guidance.
Headwinds include a weak New Zealand dollar, ongoing wage inflation, increased airport charges and intense competition on its lucrative North American routes from US carriers and Qantas, which also competes on Air New Zealand's flagship route between Auckland and New York.
"While more capacity is a good thing for markets that are currently undersupplied, the increasing cost of living may start to impact discretionary spend and with it, people's travel plans," Mr Foran said."
Don't drink and buy shares in a downtrend, you bloody idiot.

Huge increase in oil prices overnight and the very low currency...headwinds getting worse.

Onemootpoint

Those headwinds have flared up recently and becoming stronger (for the time being). At least they are leasing a B777 to replace the A320/321 NEO's undergoing engine maintenance.

Luxon took over AIR when it was in good shape .......performance (especially finically) got progressively worse before he decided to give up.

And now he could become PM ....... Not a good CEO (of a monopoly) and an even worse politician.

Come come W69 ....

Sp (adjusted for rights issue) was 86c when he took over as CEO in June 2012 and $2.71 when he left in June 2019 - up 215%.

NPAT was $71m in June 2012 and $270m in June 2019 when he handed over the reins - up 280%.

If that's your idea and measure of progressively worse performance, NZ could do with more of that!
