Over 20 years ago I was shafted by Air NZ.
I was given the wrong date for a wedding in Sydney.
Cost of changing ticket dates was excessive.
I have never flown Air NZ since.
Emirates,Qantas and JetStar have served me well.

~ $500 for four hours sleep is a good deal if you ask me.  Much better than arriving completely shattered after zero hours sleep in a sardine can sized economy seat.  Wonder if you can book it twice for the same flight and get a proper night's sleep for an economy class seat price + $1,000, now that would be an awesome deal!  I doubt it, I bet the demand for these will be off the charts at that price.

The thing is, if you have the time, it's still more cost effective to get a long-layover on flights to Europe etc, and book in a local hotel for $200 for the night and fly out refreshed the next day. I usually stop at Singapore and pay $200 for 6hours sleep in the transit hotel. It's right in the airport itself so no need to clear immigration. I mean, for $500 you could have a full nights sleep in a top-notch hotel, breakfast included and be way more refreshed. Much better than trying to catch 4hours sleep in a bunk bed on-board.

Agree with you and Lounge Lizard.  $125 per hour for 4 hours sleep and escape from the prison sentence of a sardine can economy class seat on a 14-15 hour nonstop flight seems like good value to me!   Certainly, better than arriving in New York with no hour's sleep.

Speaking of long haul flights I read the other day that Qantas under their sunrise 2025 program are going to be starting non stop flights from Sydney to London  in 2025 using a A350-1000.  20 hours!  Its going to break new ground as being the world's longest flight.  Crickey mate. Any takers for that endurance test ?

Agreed. However clearing immigration in Singapore is a breeze - basically a non event compared to the immigration queues in e.g. New Zealand or Australia.

I don't have a Singaporean passport - but it never took me more than 10 min or so to pass immigration in Singapore. Might pay you try next time one of the outside hotels ... its nice to get some fresh air in the room and proper light (and food) as well ;
