Reads to me like SM got rid of Grant because he is old, white and male.

Sky Sport much better off if they get more cuzzies doing the commentary it seems - ideally female ones!

Chur.

Grant?  Good job Sky on finally moving Smith no on.  While a reasonable commentator his  attitudes and behaviour rightly belong back in the 70s.  The only surprise is he lasted this long.

My bad, I meant Ian Smith.

Not aware of any controversy surrounding him?

Smith probably wanted out ..... can go on to better and higher things like being a truly international commentator

Quite likely.

Though some of the comments he made read to me as though being old, white and male are not desired attributes anymore.

I could be wrong.

That may be how he is trying to paint it.  There are plenty of other white, male and old commentators who are not getting moved on...by mutual agreement🥴

Sky Sports going up $3/month. As a subscriber, I'm annoyed. As a shareholder I love it.

If your customers are going to hate it, then as an owner of the business you should not love it.

Should we drop prices to $1 then?

Sky sport almost has inelastic demand If your a true sports nut.

For the content you get vs the cost of attending even just 1 live sports event or going to pub to watch...$35 is a bargain.

Sold my SKT shares last couple of weeks. No real bad reasons...bought low... 0.12 c pre share consolidation ..should've sold at 2.90 but got greedy...out in 2.30s  Only bought for a short term punt and I stayed invested way longer than I planned.
Don't really see a long term future for SKT..Pretty sure the big boys like Amazon, prime, Disney et al will be sniffing around sports in the future as the big eat the small.

The entertainment channel (aka SKT thread on here) suffered once ogg and mistatea cashed up so I just read books now and watch sky sports.

Well, no - clearly sky cannot do that since they have no scale advantage nor can they use content as a loss leader to upsell other complimentary services since they are very proud of not being a telco.

But I am pointing out that if your business model requires you to pay ever ending content cost increases, which have to be recouped somehow...yet you don't really have pricing power anymore...

Well, that is a very big problem.

So comments along the lines of I hate it as a consumer but love it as an owner of the business don't make a lot or sense to me.

Makes perfect sense, given that most people are going to pay the extra $5 a month in order to watch the live sport of their choice. It's one cup of coffee a month, for heaven's sake. I don't see a lot of people cancelling their subscriptions and SKY have over 500k subscribers (not all with sports) so the increase in revenue will more than compensate for the few that do.

Yeah but we have all been doing the "the current increase is equivalent to one cup of Joe a month for chr***'s sake" for a few years now.

There will be a tipping point, especially in inflationary environments where people are looking to cut back expenses.

Perhaps we aren't at that tipping point yet? I really don't know.

But I do know that Sky do not have pricing power and need to tread very carefully.
