Quote from: PeterLynch on Jun 28, 2022, 07:42 PMI'd be concerned that Osmium Partners have started to sell.

You can't tell by the disclosure but it seems likely that all those sales are recently.

Likely lost faith in management after the last fiasco or maybe they don't see this as a value stock after the run up to $3.

Their monthly newsletters usually give the answer.

Agreed - I think this is fallout from the Boards self-inflicted crisis. Insto's are like everyone else, they need to believe that their money is in safe hands. The Board, in it's secretive, ill-timed and frankly just bonkers, interest in MediaWorks, demonstrated that it can't be trusted. If it had simply announced a return of capital OSMIUM would have been sitting pretty at $3 per share, but I suspect now they are hedging their bets by drawing down their exposure.

I'm not too concerned about it, Osmium has been reducing exposure to NZME as well as per their 2nd June disclosure. NZME's board hasn't made any public displays of foolishness of late have they? Probably just found better opportunities elsewhere, I suspect they are not the only ones given the share price.

They are conviction like investors. When they think a stock is deep value they buy heaps and aren't scared to go over weight.

But yeah, they were probably just rebalancing their portfolio as there are other bargains around at the moment. Nothing to be worried about.

However on a side note, they've been investing in Redbubble (ASX) for a while. They got in cheap and rode it to the top. Back in February they turned activist on the board and tried to get them to sell to PE. Sale never went through and now the stock over the last few months has collapsed. Not sure what the hell was going on over there!

Again, probably nothing to worry about and irrelevant. But yeah, John likely up to something. It's the old saying, "people sell for lots of reasons, but only one reason why the buy, cause they think the price is going higher!".

Insert of Interesting article in BD today

Discovery New Zealand Limited, the owner of Three and Newshub, fell to a $34 million loss in 2021, according to newly-filed accounts.

The broadcaster, part of US giant Warner Bros. Discovery, recorded the heavy loss after racking up a larger wage bill and paying an $8.2m service fee to its parent company, the accounts show. Discovery NZ made a $10.2m profit in 2020.

The media group earned $141.4m in revenue in the year to Dec 31 2021, up from $129m in 2021. But a $13m increase in employee remuneration and benefits, and the multimillion-dollar payment to its parent, tipped the company into the red.

If they bought Sky the parent company would get a very, very fat cheque each year...

Anyone know anything about when the new STB are being rolled out? Are they still be trialled? As usual the Board seems to be quiet on how things are going. It's only a shedload of our money that went into the development...

Intel are saying the chip shortage will last until 2024.

Generally speaking bad news is always tight lipped. How many broadband subs are there again?

The fact that Sky haven't said anything means it's at least 6 months away from any meaningful roll out.

I'd image there will be a massive back order even after release.

Having said that, I do think this new STB will be the cornerstone of Sky's success over the coming years and they need to roll it out ASAP!

I've heard anecdotal things on social media that old Sky customers (and potential new customers) are waiting for this new box to come out before re-signing up to Sky. Lots of old TV Vodafone customers are looking for alternatives right now. It's a shame the new box isn't coming out to meet this change over.

Lot of Geekzone users trying to work out how to get the best deals. Apparently it's getting harder to get deals when calling up and threating to cancel. Apparently it's an hour wait long on the phone. Trick is to get to the "retention team" and then you can get deals.

Geekzone users say Spark Sport is dead and that Sky is worth the extra cost for the convenience as apposed to dealing with VPN services.

Typical posts I'm seeing all over social media.

The new Sky box will likely hold customers longer than broadband and rugby.

They need to release the new box ASAP!!

Can't blame them for chip shortages but management needs to create a road map and give more updates / pre sales etc. Or give the market/customers something like sneak peak, TV ads etc?? Anything to promote this more. They should pull all the broadband ads and replace it with new sky box ads!!!

QuoteLooking at the hardware and software technology suppliers involved, Kaonmedia is delivering the Android TV Operator Tier set top, called simply the Sky Box, with middleware and systems integration from Wyplay, while security has been placed in the capable hands of Irdeto.

Wyplay is delivering the core DVB software stack with middleware to sit on Android TV, which ensures that the OS can provide satellite channel tuning functionality and PVR management. Wyplay says it is also managing all the complexity of the forthcoming Sky Box hybrid hardware for the partners involved.

Kaonmedia is integrating WiFi 6 technology, 4K support, and eight tuners for connection to a satellite receiver for FTA channels, plus a 1 TB hard drive for recordings. Pace was a long-term set top supplier for Sky New Zealand, winning a contract back in 2013, prior to its purchase by Arris, so the latest CommScope Android TV certified set tops were clearly beaten out by a resurgent Kaonmedia in this latest bid.

Universal Electronics is developing the Bluetooth remote control with embedded microphones for voice search.

Channels will be encrypted by Irdeto's Cloaked CA cardless conditional access technology, with specific security components for Android TV including watermarking and fingerprinting for further protection of Sky's content.

The Irdeto App Watch for Android is also being employed by Sky NZ to ensure the integrity of apps running on the new Sky Box by giving oversight and targeted control that allows the operator to take steps to restrict problematic apps and plug-ins.

Intertrust is used for the OTT-delivered Sky Go TV Everywhere service, having recently had its ExpressPlay DRM cloud service selected by Sky New Zealand, expanding the DRM provider's already well-established APAC footprint.

We are assuming that the ThinkAnalytics recommendation engine will be expanded to cover the new Android TV Operator Tier platform, with the UK-based firm winning a deal at Sky New Zealand less than two years ago.

this box is never coming out anytime soon
