https://help.kayosports.com.au/s/article/What-is-Kayo-Freebies

They're copying Kayo Sports which is the Austrian sports streaming service owned by Foxtel.

I don't think Spark Sport is dead yet. Looks like they're happy to just pick up inexpensive rights and have the service as a bolt on still. As long as costs are low they are happy to keep the service and use it for promotions etc.

https://tvtonight.com.au/2021/01/kayo-to-offer-free-streaming-events.html
"Kayo Freebies is another game-changing moment. We believe Kayo Freebies will increase our audience share for selected events, expand audiences for growing sports and ultimately take Kayo's subscription growth to the next level.

Nah this means they really want out mate!

If they are at the point of giving their content away (because only a handful of die hard Indians will pay for the service) then Sky should get a very good deal to buy them out.

The fact that video stores still exist shows that Sky TV has a way to go yet (despite the market pricing her as though she will go bust in a few years).

Bro, you just don't learn! How many times do I have to tell. The market doesn't give a fark about that!

Look at Tesla today, stock has popped again! Up 10% overnight but profits down. Investors just pile in because MUH GROWTH AND SHETT!!.

It's like leasehold property. It doesn't matter what the yield or is, it's worthless and nobody touches it.

Buying Sky today is like buying Video Ezy in 2002. Sure there's like 10 years of profit left but that barely covers the costs of buying the asset. You wanna be the guy who buys Video Ezy in 1992 and sells it to the other guy in 2002.

Sky needs a takeover now!!! Otherwise investors will end up like the people in that news article and will have to walk away not getting anything for their 'nest egg' which they worked hard to build up over a decade!

Bro, NZ has no capital gainz. The thoght of havzing a big phat check and get dem gaiz without paying de cent!!

Oh don't get me wrong - I agree with what you are saying.

I am just pointing out that Sky TV will remain a going concern for the forseeable future.

The market is unlikely to ever value Sky at what she should theoretically be worth based on a DCF. Hence, selling Sky to someone is absolutely the best way to maximise shareholder returns.

No two ways about it.

Interesting article:

Labor government in Australia bidding for sports rights

https://www.channelnews.com.au/labor-now-wants-to-control-afl-rights-club-revenue-could-be-hit/

QuoteThe AFL had been counting on a war between local broadcasters Seven, Nine, Ten, and Foxtel who were being told that several overseas parties were interested in the rights.

Now it appears that Foxtel is in a prime position to cut a deal with Amazon Prime whose shows they already broadcast as the market for advertising softens due to changing economic conditions.
