Interesting, thanks for sharing.  Yeah, charge-net started out at 25 cents a KW/hr, many years ago...going up to 90 cents on 1 April.  Now owned by Genesis.  Hmmm...

Quote from: Scooter on Mar 28, 2026, 05:31 PMJust like to add my 2 cents.  I've had a Nissan leaf 2012 for 8 going on 9 years this year. Best car I've ever owned. Yeah range is getting lower now and it's never been a long range car but the savings I made have been huge and maintenance has been tyres and window wipers. That's it. Road users take the bite out a little but still a cheap ride. Plus I added solar to the house with the savings in fuel in 2021 and tined that perfectly when power started it's biggest climbs. New car in a few years or could sell the wife's hybrid and keep the leaf a little longer. I don't use fast chargers unless really urgent as the prices are unjustified especially now at 90cents a kW in some places. I thought 40cebts a kW was expensive but look how far weve come

good feedback.  the drawback with hybrids is that you have both tech in one - so can have battery issues and engine issues.  still have to get the vehicle serviced and oil changed.   I think you have outlined the costs savings on EVs quite nicely - nice work with the solar installation - are you selling back to the grid?

With Yemen now joining the war this looks like it could get a lot worse before it's going to get better. Dow futures down 900 after 800 drop on Friday. If the Houthis do block off the Red Sea then we are in for some very tuff times indeed.

Thank you.   Yes I'm selling back to the grid.  I'm in a back and forth email exchange with powershop at the moment. Regarding export prices not increasing online with increases a cross the board for power.  In two years the power has increased by up to 10cebts a kW. But they say the solar rebate is market driven.....

There is no doubt its looking like Share Guy indicates and in the UK the DOOM merchants are writing it up...

If TRA made money in a recession then left hope they can keep making money then there is NO OIL....

Not likely...

I always wonder why everybody is talking about no oil?

Its just 20% which is missing. If Basil reduces his fishing trips and the farmers filled all of their empty barrels with diesel, we are probably doing fine.

During and after WW2 did they use in Germany a lot of machinery and trucks with wood fire (basically running them with CO). Even this works. Aparantly these cars need higher maintenance ... just another opportunity for TRA!

from AI: "Wood-fired cars, using wood gasifiers (Imbert generators), were common in Berlin and across Europe in the immediate post-WWII years (circa 1945–1950) due to severe petrol shortages. These vehicles, often converted commercial trucks or private cars, used charcoal or wood pellets to produce gas, though they offered lower power and required frequent, dirty maintenance. "

$3.59 for diesel is going to make a lot of people use their launches as nothing more than floating immobile inner city apartments...ask me how I know lol

Westpac Kelly and their team if reckonomists say this is likely - if the Strait is closed for 6 months. Growth falls to near zero, unemployment over 6%, inflation peaks over 7% and house prices fall significantly.

Wow ....the Misery Index will be high

Quote from: Basil on Mar 28, 2026, 02:10 PMPretty sure I am not the only one thinking of buying an electric vehicle. Plenty of reports they're flying off dealers yards and I am sure there is so much demand there will be no point in trying to negotiate the price down. Possible last month profit boost for 2CC and Turners ?

The $64,000 question though is do you join the queue and buy one yourself ?
Overreaction or prudent forward planning ?
I'd love to know people's thoughts.
Not quite sure what to think. Still have very bad memories of Covid lockdown...mild PTSD from that and super keen to ensure a type of enforced lack of mobility doesn't happen again. I guess there's buses and bikes but it's not the same as having your own car. Possibly there's never been a more compelling time than now to own an EV ?  What do you think ?
Hybrid is a better option, the resale value of an EV is not good.

The rbnz will do what it always does which is to rape savers with their 'look through' approach.

Don't leave your money in new zealand arse paper in a highly corrupted monetary system.

Hopefully members here got their money out into gold and silver years ago.

Just keep the five dollar notes in case loo paper runs out at the supermarket.

In business there's a lot of polite talk and commentary which in this case conceals utter and ruthless theft.

I test drove a Zeeker, (Owned by Geely who have owned Volvo since 2010) 7X AWD electric SUV with 640 horsepower this week.  What an absolute beast.  That's saving the planet made extremely interesting !  Acceleration is absolutely brutal, seriously over the top.  Forest green colour is amazing.

So victoriana govt halved public transport plus drops in lorry rucs and fuel tax. Here in auckland we close our electric (renewable) train network for the next 2 weeks.....Just moronic...
