Sounds like an amazing investment into NZ's future, doesn't it?

Simple gravity makes it likely that contaminated spoil from a tailing dam leak will make its way into the Clutha River - the second longest river in NZ and largest river by volume,  a vital source of fresh water for downstream towns such as Cromwell, Clyde, Alexandra, Roxburgh. Beaumont and Balclutha.

In the extreme long run I agree there is a risk but tailings dams are built to very robust standards.  Extreme earthquake is probably the major risk.

It is right next to a fault line as builders of the Clyde Dam found at their cost (ie NZ taxpayers.)

There are also huge uncharted underground water flows as again highlighted by the remedial work required in the Cromwell gorge to protect the dam from major slips.

It aint as simple as it seems Basil, ask any local.

Fair enough Left Field.  I'm sure this issue has already been addressed at great length in the 9,000 + pages of technical reports accompanying the FTA and will be a subject of great debate by various experts from both sides.

Skipping over the rights and wrongs of the Project, bar to say the local ODT rag is very much at an editorial level moved to a position of saying such matters are best sorted in the existing regulatory system by those with some expertise, which the SMI CEO followed up in an article this week that included some "colloquial" references to Sir Ian Taylor, who has had a bit of a bun fight response sequence, and towards Sir Sam Neill as profile opponents to such mining activities.

Latest SPP offering to calculate at AUD90c has information to detail to come this week for shareholders (if ASX give a waiver for a subsequent SPP within 12 months the application date will be sooner than 1 April,) but does have some disclosures already from the SMI CEO   https://www.nzx.com/announcements/467602

extracted content from page 1
Damian Spring, Executive Director and CEO of Santana, commented:
"This is a strong show of support for Santana and its proposed development of the Bendigo-Ophir
Gold Project. This placement essentially fills the equity component of funding for the development
with discussions on the remaining debt funding advancing well.
The funds raised will enable us to accelerate our pathway to production by enabling early works
and major equipment deposits to enable an immediate start on receipt of our final resource
consents which are due at the end of October 2026."

And extracted content from page 4 I found interesting personally
Without limiting its discretion pursuant to the terms of the SPP, Santana also advises that in the event
that the SPP is oversubscribed, in considering any necessary scale-back and allocation of shares
Santana will have regard to the extent to which any Eligible Shareholders sell shares prior to the Closing
Date and any Eligible Shareholders who sell such shares are unlikely to receive any allocation under
the SPP.

SPP at AUD90c last application date set for Friday this week for any investors desiring to participate.

Online application with completion of a direct debit authority to a NZ denominated transactional bank account.

Current exchange rate of about 0.84 if is the same at close of trade cross rate on Friday might mean NZ holders are allocated shares issued at around NZD$1.07, also note that latest ASX trading has been below the AUD$0.90 issue price.

Financials for 26HY1 to 31 December 2025 will be loaded to NZX announcements today https://www.nzx.com/announcements/468951

Why participate when they are cheaper on market and the retail part is only about 10% of the raising...

true - the webpage does not offer a lot of names ... actually - it doesn't offer any contact.

On the other hand ... the recent article from Otago Times offers at least a spokes person:

https://www.odt.co.nz/regions/central-otago/new-anti-mine-group-takes-aim-tailings-dam-failure-risk

Zoe Hawkins, which may or may not be the same Zoe Hawkins in Auckland who states that she is a highly experienced writer.

"My name is Zoe Hawkins. I am a highly experienced writer, communications expert, marketer and events manager with  specialisations in the marine industry and marine environment."

I guess the writing style appears to be similar. Maybe just the way to get a job?

But anyway - maybe just ask her about the people running the orgajnisation she is talking for?
