well the IDF just hit Iran in the middle of the night taking out an HAMAS leader...

does this evolve into a low intensity bunching thing....

iran already sent 300 drones and missiles...

in the previous century that would have made for a start of a conflict..

now is it just " we fire something when we need to"

in other words it already started .... a while ago...

or was that fizzer it ...

Did they admit it was them?

But anyway - pretty scary to see so many players playing with fire in a powder keg store. Obviously - Israel's extreme right strongman needs to keep the war going, otherwise he knows he is gone. As long as Netanyahu runs the show, we know their will be no peace - just more suffering on all sides.

tink everyone knows it was them....

"Biblical Times" is the period between approximately 1700BC and 100AD during which the Bible was written.

back to the future.....

shocking ... no progress for humanity then...

Know of young Kiwis living in New York who are now very disappointed...

The protest generation ... well though protesting was a bygone sport ... looks like it back big time...

Recent in-depth account of action in the Ukraine v Russia war.

https://www.understandingwar.org/backgrounder/russian-offensive-campaign-assessment-july-30-2024

Key Takeaways:

Russian forces conducted five platoon- to battalion-sized mechanized assaults in western Donetsk Oblast on July 29 and 30. Such localized mechanized pushes are likely the manifestation of Russia's forecasted summer offensive—Russian forces likely lack the wider operational capacity to mount a separate renewed offensive operation in Donetsk Oblast or elsewhere on the front this summer.
The Russian military command's willingness to accept costly armored vehicle losses without conducting a large-scale, multi-directional offensive operation or making operationally significant advances in western Donetsk Oblast will likely burden the Russian military in the long-term. The ongoing Russian offensive operations are also costly for Ukrainian defenders and are likely meant to degrade Ukrainian capabilities through attrition whether or not they gain much ground.

Possible (re peace talks soon) ... and looking at the duration of the overall war - that's a function of Putlers desire (he wants to fight until all of Uke belongs to him) and the willingness of the West to properly support Uke (West likes to sit on the loo, but is doing its business only in small instalments).

With proper Western support the war never would have started in earnest - and even now, it could be finished within months.

If support stays on current level, than yes - 30 years are a guess as good as any. The real question is when Putler's Soviet Union will falter? Remember - they did before - even without the need of running an expensive war as they do these days.

I understand.

And I guess in this case its easy to come up with 50k years of war for the human race (well, since the last big invasion of homo sapiens from central Africa who invaded into all other regions and killed and / or inbred (not minding consent) with whatever other homo species have been around. Clearly - taking from others with force whatever we want is one of the deeply ingrained strategies in our genes.

And sure - if we just look at local focus points - On the Balkan people are killing each other (with short interruptions) for at least a couple of centuries. In the so called holy land they are killing each other since biblical times (so, at least the last 2500 years). So, yes - while it is a bit weird that the Russians try to extinguish the Ukrainians (despite having that much common history) - maybe this is the same way it started between the Arabs and the Jews?

I suppose it is at the moment just too many humans around, and some people can't wait to speed up the decline from peak human. Give it another 50 years and the globe will be back to three billion people. While the past shows that this doesn't reduce violence and killing, at least will there be again more space to avoid violence for the ones who desire this.

Well, it now costs Ukraine more to maintain their pipeline(s) than they receive apparently.  But would they want to pee off the European countries that it supplies? That said they are supposed to be closing it down later this year anyway.

Ukrainian forces reportedly struck a Russian military convoy east of Rylsk near Oktyabrskoye, Kursk Oblast. Geolocated footage published on August 9 shows the aftermath of the strike and destroyed Russian trucks along the 38K-017 highway.[13] Russian and Ukrainian sources stated that there were 14 Ural and KAMAZ covered trucks carrying Russian reserves intended to reinforce Russian forces in Kursk Oblast and that the strike likely killed several Russian personnel traveling in the trucks.[14] Russian sources suggested that the column may have been transporting personnel from the Russian Northern Grouping of Forces' 44th Army Corps (Leningrad Military District) or the "Pyatnashka" Brigade.[15] Russian milbloggers theorized about which weapons system Ukraine may have used to conduct this strike, although ISW is not prepared to comment on which system Ukraine may have used during the strike.
