Hope it is OK to post this here. Looking for recommendations for a cordless line trimmer. For those who don't know, I live in my caravan in a holiday park - so need something to tidy up around the caravan and handle some rougher grass/weeds along the tree line behind the caravan.

There are way too many to choose from and I am overthinking it now. Want to avoid the very cheap brands as I need something that will last for at least a few years. Thinking maybe looking at the length of warranty isn't a bad idea?

Anyway, any brand recommendations, or feedback on which ones to steer clear of, would be welcomed.

Thanks!

Jay

Personally have a Ryobi - from their Ryobi One lineup as we have a hedge trimmer and blower all using the same battery -
Does a good job for our edging etc and had about 2-3 years so far and no issues

Ryobi reliable brand and line trimmer psd work well.

Don't use my Ryobi much these days as Dave the gardener comes around with his big noisy trimmers and saws...good value is that Dave

Can I ask which models you guys have?

Pretty impressed with their warranty. 4 years standard replacement warranty, but if you register your product online within x amount of time, you get 6 years. Plus a standard replacement warranty on batteries and chargers of 3 years. Can't really get any better than that.

This is the "one" ee have
Ryobi One+ 18V 25/30cm 4.0Ah Cordless Line Trimmer Kit

I have been using mid range petrol line trimmers for many years. Each lasted for 5-8 years with regular maintenance.

In 2019 I switched to a Ryobi brushless One+ model RLT1833BL4 (18W) because I have a few Ryobi tools and batteries and chargers which is a major convenience factor. I think it has been replaced by a more powerful model since.

I am fairly happy with it. The long term  Warranty is still in place and there is no indication that it wishes to retire. It does the job fine - mostly. In longer/ denser/ tougher grass it struggles a bit so it takes a bit longer to complete that part than the petrol machines did. All and all though I am happy with its performance.

One plus stuff can be okay but if the tool has to work hard it won't last, I let the smoke out of one sabre saw and the other I broke the tool holder off the shaft.

I now have dewalt tools. Sabre saw (54v), circ saw (54v), drill (18v), impact driver 18v), leaf blower (54v) and lawn mower (2x 18v) and the line trimmer (54v).

The line trimmer absolutely rips, I run it on 6ah batteries and I have two of them, I've had it for about 3 or 4 years now. If you don't mind spending a bit extra I'd go for Dewalt or Makita stuff.

I use somewhat bigger tools (including my good old trustworthy TEA 20) to keep our paddocks under control ... but have as well one Stihl brush cutter (which can be used with a line as well) and a smaller Husquvarna line trimmer with petrol engine.

All doing rather well, but probably overkill for your requirements, and as a rule - with Petrol engines I find Stihl better than Husqvarna (more economical and easier to start). But back to your requirements:

I noted that there is a test in the consumer magazine. Accessible only to members - and not in a form which would make copying easy :);

However - Off the cordless line trimmers they recommend as TOP candidates the EGO 56V POWERLOAD, The Ryobi 36V RLT36X4BL, the Stihl FSA 60 R, and the Makita 18V DUR189ST.

Hope this helps.
