Quote from: mistaTea on Feb 08, 2023, 06:26 PMYes absolutely just my opinion, but in why respect has my opinion been defied? Quoted value per share increase? Sure.

But market cap? That is still lower than before the capital return. So it's largely smoke and mirrors as shareholders who have stuck around from before the CR own lees shares.

So yes, they can keep returning cash with a buyback etc- but until they demonstrate a feasible GROWTH plan it is hard to see the market cap trending anyway but down.

Of course I could be wrong. But I don't know think anything has happened since the capital return (thus far anyway) that warrants the endorphins flowing.

Well, Spark Sport exiting is good for sure. And should mean any negotiations sky have with NZR are a formality - but that doesn't mean content costs will go down unfortunately.

Now that they seem set on remaining merely a content aggregator - it is hard to see realistic growth.

I think a buyback will potentially benefit traders - but anyone who is planning to own the business long term (like Buffett) will not be much better off over the long run (and I expect, will actually end up worse off).

Of course the market cap is lower now than before the capital return!  You are forgetting that shareholders received $70m in December and now the sp is higher than the $2.40 capital return per cancelled share.

And some shareholders, thanks to some excellent down ramping by some posters, have been able to buy back shares at well below that price back.

Your concerns and negativity about SKT are btw entirely understandable - but that's why SKT is priced so cheaply.

And that's why a share buyback makes sense.

Where's the smoke and mirror?

The only smoke and mirror is posters ramping SKT massively for many months and then selling out, and now downramping it incessantly since they are now anxious it will pump and reach whatever lofty targets they were spruiking in their earlier ramping phase without them.

It is easy to make accusations based on a simplistic world view of upramper/downramper...

Though why anyone thinks that the chatter on these forums by (mostly) unsophisticated mom and pop investors has ANY bearing on the prevailing SP is puzzling.

Furthermore, though the evolution of my views on Sky don't sit well with some...I am still yet to find anyone who is able to provide credible counter arguments to my criticisms. Just insults it seems.

Changing your view on something (especially when your convictions are strongly held) is actually incredibly difficult.

Reporting on 23rd February.

A good dividend and a high probability of a share buyback to get the sp closer to $3.00 imo.

Question is - will we get an earnings update next week as the numbers are finalised and leaks need to be contained.

Results will be within guidance. Which is good news. They would have released an anny last month if not.

Recent share price appreciation likely due to Spark Sport exit.

Foxtel results just out:

https://www.adnews.com.au/news/foxtel-paid-subscribers-up-10-to-4-3-million

Similar pattern with revenue from streaming off setting revenue decline in cable.

Market on 23rd Feb will be looking at Sky Sport Now streaming numbers. The recent SSN price rise is looking good to offset sat decline. That will be the key.

Cost of securing sporting content will also be another thing market looking at.

Commentary around cost of living etc also another key aspect market will be looking at.

Overall, looks steady. Balance sheet clean, generating cash, share buy back coming etc. All good news to support share price.

Could see a run up to $3 but usual sell down/cash out will cap stock another above this level.

Same old story with Rugby rights coming up creating uncertainty.

Board may be looking at MW type acquisitions again.

Still think the only logical end game is Warner Bros buying them.

SKT SP over the last 3 weeks or so appears to just be following the wider market trend which has shown some optimism due to inflation looking like it may have peaked in some key markets.

The fantastic news for SKT is that the SP is following the market trend for a change. Since the Sky-Vodafone deal blew up, SKT seemed to have an inverse relationship with the market when it went higher and a direct relationship when the market went down! Good stuff.

The bad news then is that the current bump in SP (on the back of some fairly low volumes) is little to do with Management prowess and mostly to do with general shifts in market sentiment. Still good if you are a shareholder and see the quoted value of your investment increase, but not so great if you are anticipating a stellar results announement beyond what Sky have already released to the market in terms of guidance.
