Happy new year to all.
I don't know about you guys but I am absolutely exhausted from 2022.  It felt to me like doing dog paddle as fast as you can all year and going nowhere.
Here's hoping for a slightly less challenging 2023 but I think it will be a very bumpy ride so strap yourself in and let's see what happens.

Let's check in with some wise old heads from Summerset's retirement village in Whangarei and see their prognostications for 2023

At least 31 December is behind us so the significant amount of US tax loss harvesting is over, (US investors can as I understand it can use share sale losses if realised to offset capital gains tax on other holdings).  Maybe that will see a more positive mood in January on Wall St that filters down-under ?
Let's hope so, 2022 was very challenging.

European stocks got off to a positive start yesterday.  Stoxx 600 up 1%, France and Italy both up nearly 2%, Spain 1.7%, and Germany dragging the chain with a 1.1% gain.  London and New York open after public holidays tonight and it'll be interesting if they follow suit, that'd give the NZX a fair chance of doing the same.

Then the  ASX 200 goes and tanks by 1.3 per cent to 6,946 points, its lowest level in almost two months. All bets are off.

U.S. stocks buck the global equities rally.  How's the NZX gonna kick of 2023?

Dvaid Roch says from dublin nothing happening this year.

Hard one to pick 2023 . China in a mess with Covid. Do they all get it in January then it goes gangbusters for the rest of the year ?  Or does the fact half off the workforce will be off mean we again get manufacturing delays , then global
logistics problems ?
From my perspective until we see central bank rate cuts , probably not a turnaround in the current trend.
