Quote from: Basil on Jul 14, 2026, 09:51 PMI'm also feeling now is not the right time to apply fresh capital with global growth funds. Plenty of froth in some of the tech stocks and a S&P500 ETF has a lot of exposure to it.  Even a global fund like Simplicity's one has a high allocation to it based on its market capitalization.

Very disappointing to see the Middle East back into complete turmoil again.

This insights article from Nicholas Bagnall of Te Ahumairangi highlights the frothiness of tech stocks outside the magnificent seven quite well.

Discovery's number 1 holding GDG up 38 percent yesterday.

Stoploss

Have they still got that holding ? Didn't see a bounce $ 2.39 today , down 8.2 % for the month .

It was in last months update, but yes could have sold it since. Today's update also a shocker down nearly 10 percent for the month. OUCH....

I think there is a strong chance their performance is reverting to the mean. i.e. benchmark or lower performance net of fees.9+

Not many NZ fund managers did well in July. With GDG still listed as their number one stock I'm very surprised how bad it was. Perhaps it was the washout of CTD, which is not looking good.

Looking forward to August reporting which should hopefully confirm as they say, that they made the right calls.

Te Ahumairangi have been a solid performer for a long time. My only concern in the current environment is their aversion to currency hedging because I feel the NZD/USD exchange rate track will be a headwind for quite a while.

Te Ahumairangi look good thanks, will throw some money their way.

As in we we stay at historically weak levels vs USD for some time or revert to the higher mean shortly?

I think we are at the beginnings of NZD/USD reverting back to something more like its historical mean, or at least low 0.60's.
Te Ahu do have the authority to use hedging, and they have in the past, but I think only for a small portion. They seem very fixed on being unhedged.
