Hmm - would this be an all black beagle? Very patriotic ... and no wonder it can do amazing things ...

Beagles and Labrador's must be closely related breeds LOL

I'd rather have a hound dog ;D

Includes this classic, "an easygoing beagle named Roger, with soulful eyes and a hitch in his step."
Puppy mills really are yet another disgusting low point in human endeavours. It takes a special kinda scumbag to abuse animals for profit.
Cool story mate. Awesome that some people try and look after this adorable breed. I loved the whole story about what they're trying to do but liked this bit the most which I think really characterizes the golden heart these dog rescuers have:-
The group wore matching T-shirts emblazoned with the phrase, "Put a little hound in your heart." Above the text was an illustration of a small dog with its nose to the ground. Anyone familiar with the breed knows that beagles are always – always – sniffing for something.[/i]
I remember fondly our much loved Beagle, Kelly. We rescued a dog recently...unfortunately it's not a Beagle....I wish it was.
Not sure what breed he is but he's HUGE so there must be some St Bernard in there somewhere.
I've nick-named him "Five Beagles" which gives a clue to his size lol

My uncle was the hunt master for Brackenfield Hunt Club (https://www.sporty.co.nz/bh/Home) for years when I was young. He had about 30 - 40 'hounds' (a variant of the beagle) at any one time. All the horse club palaver was never my gig but I loved those dogs. I currently have a German Shepard and just got an Dogo Argentino cross pup to train up for pig hunting. He's also gonna be HUGE and will fill out to 70-80kg.
Dogo Argentino - Interesting looking breed, big solid head and jaw not dissimilar to our new boy Tony, who's other nickname is Tony the Pony lol. Should be good for intended purpose !
Hahah love Tony the Pony. Mine's called Pablo. As in the song "Pablo Picasso" about the artist Pablo Picasso - how meta is that! He's a X, too hard to get pure breds here. They're mired with the label of a dangerous breed which is rubbish. They're a great family dog - brilliant with kids. They're also very protective and courageous. Like any dog thou if they're poorly trained and not well socialized their risk factor increases. Temperament wise they're a helluva lot more easy going than many nippy little horrors, like the corgi.
Tony the Pony's one bad and dangerous habit is catching fly's. If one comes near him, he'll quickly move and snap his huge jaws down quickly to engulf it in his mouth. I presume he swallows it. Happened twice while he was next to me on the couch, (taking up most of it) last night and came very close to biting my arm in the process. Third time unlucky and I like my arm the way it is not mangled up I thought, so I moved out of range.
Wife reckons I am spending too much time in my man cave over the holidays so emailed me this last evening...I thought it was quite funny.
"FREE TO GOOD HOME: fat boring beagle, blind/deaf/dumb, neutered, does nothing except bark when bored, or frequently scoff food [hope you have a big food budget set aside to feed him]. Not house trained or properly socialized, disobedient, wayward, and has perhaps seen better days ???!
Guess I'd better take her and the pony to the beach today. It seems between the fly catching and the pithy email they're both bored.
The almost endless rain has finally stopped so that helps.
Tell you what, Tony the Pony bears a startling resemblance to Buck in the most recent version of Call of the Wild. The colors, the markings, the size, everything! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5P8R2zAhEwg
Basil - greyhound call them (flies) FLYING RAISINS
All hell breaks loose if its a bee
Oh my goodness, 3 old rescued Greyhounds and one bumble bee...I can only imagine the pandemonium lol

E hika mā! I took one of the mokos to that damn film about a year ago - floods of tears! Had to go to McDonalds after to placate her. I found the CGI a bit off. Great story thou - that and White Fang were firm favourites of my childhood. The author, Jack London was an intriguing sort of a character too: https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smithsonian-institution/short-heroic-rags-riches-life-jack-london-180961200
Arguably one of the coolest animal stories of all time. Keeps getting remade so that adds weight to my theory.
Agree the CGI in last year's version was a bit clunky.
2009 full movie here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5N4JSLWRS0Y
Original 1935 full movie here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JoPmexwf_E0
There may be other remakes I'm not aware of.

Thanks for the links! That's me sorted while this damn cyclone does its thing for the next 24 hours...
No link but "Martin Eden" (2019) is a good watch too. It's an Italian-French historical romance drama (that descriptor has probably sent you running from the room!) based on the novel of the same name by Jack London (written 90 years earlier.)

Tony the Pony has settled in well.
Loves mega amounts of pats, rubs and hugs which suits me just fine!

Here (https://www.nytimes.com/2023/01/22/style/dog-walkers-six-figures-100k-nyc.html) you go - not just pats and rubs but a bit of exercise to boot. $100K - why wouldn't you? Is this a gap in the Auckland market for you, Basil? Unretirement is a hot trend.
Oh my goodness, I've missed my life's purpose mate 8)
There's a few people already marketing in my area. $20 a walk seems to be about the go
Massive challenge holding the Pony back on his leash...I'd need a sled in the snow if there was more than one ;D
Takes the meaning of tongue hanging out of your mouth to all new lengths lol

Here's a neat story, Basil. (https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2024/jan/15/merlin-spaniel-humans-dogs-home) It reminds me of one of my favourite kids books, The Incredible Journey.
