I don't see the appeal, the dividend yield is alright but they are paying out much higher DPS than EPS. Surely something has got to give eventually? Why own SPK over a gentailer?

Theenk 'battle ztrategy'.  Best to have deefferent squadrons at deefferent locations.    Put all your planes in one place and a raid on your airfield could cripple your air vorce completely.  Zo zpread ze risk!   Ze question eez not to judge which eez best: Zpark or Gentailer.  You have BOTH as your insurance policy.

Because if anything happened to either the country would be stuffed and you would have far bigger things to worry about.

Downgrade and pressure on the dividend levels? You judge.

Not really much of a downgrade looking at those figure ranges, dividend staying the same. Great buying today so that's what I'm doing.

Maybe a good move for dividend yield....however TA is still heading south

I wish you well.

Maybe caution on averaging in, the clear and present warning was slow down and stopped digital contracts. It's just beginning, government especially are cancelling inflight projects and forward planned projects. This will take a while to play out, no need to rush into SPK, the buying is likely to get better, imo.

Yes could go lower but I guess thats always the case, the Govt can't afford to go backwards much in this space if they want to stay relevant on the world stage, its innovate or become a dinosaur in the world we live in. SPK themselves have proven to be quite apt at trimming costs and chopping off excessive fat so that should help.

Honestly, I recommend (not advice, just suggest) that you recalibrate your confidence in the highlighted bit above. Government have no concern at all in that, at the moment and for some time to come, in anything other than slashing costs and digital projects are being canned, stopped, blocked, left right and centre. Spark is a massive to supplier government and they told us today in no uncertain terms, things have changed and it will have material impact on the current business and pipeline. That's all I have to say on this, except that rose coloured spectacles could get investors into serious trouble for the foreseeable future. Imo as always.

Yes a true reflection of where NZ is at in this moment, not in a good space on basically all fronts. Having said that there are some stocks im more than happy to hold for 10 yrs and this is one of them.

Price stabilizing around current levels and looks oversold on just about any chart. Happy to keep adding at these bargin prices and I even agree with the Snoop dog on the other channel which is rare.

Quote from: seaweed on Apr 16, 2024, 11:10 AMHi Breezy, am thinking the same and have started stocking up SPKs in last few weeks. What a dream to trade compared to HLG. The NZX opens at 3pm here in California and closes at 10pm the previous day. It is now over here 4.10pm Monday 15/4/24.
Hi Mr Seaweed, saw your post on the other channel, yes its closing lower on volume cause the bigger holders are selling to bigger buyers on close, im still buying but soon to run out of dosh. Once I've run out ill start shorting my own shares by selling parcels for a loss and buying back more shares leading up to the next divvy, good luck.

Like you, Breezy, Spark is one of my core stocks that I look to add to when the price is right - as it is now.
I'm not concerned about the recent downgrade, to which there has been a bit of an over-reaction. Like you, I don't see how NZ can afford not to keep investing in telecommunications and digital services. The current Governments scorched earth approach to the public sector isn't sustainable so that wheel will turn in due course.
Shorting your own stocks? Never done that and wonder how that would work a highly traded stock like Spark.

Its just my term for selling a parcel of my shares for a loss and buying the parcel back slightly cheaper and with more in the parcel, as I have no intention of selling my holding below my original avg buy price it just means I end up with more shares and fights boredom at the same time. PS-I don't recommend this strategy for the faint-hearted as it can backfire if you get too enthusiastic.

Dito here to. Sold some at 4.39 and bought them back on close at 4.31. No need to touch term deposits :) also drops my average price, my problem had bought too many before downgrade but am not too worried, it will go up leading into next div.
