The membership is slowly growing and to my knowledge has not had the same issues as the other site.  Would be good if others stopped posting on other site as this will lead to more people wondering and looking for alternatives.

The Sharetrader Forum database has encountered a problem.

She is down again two hours earlier than suggested.  The message is go and get some fish and chips for dinner.  Vince rightly deduces it is too wet to mow the lawns.  Could be 'out' for the rest of the day now?

RB

(Edit:   That is interesting, ten minutes later and the the search database is rebuilt and the unmentionable website  back up and running.  Shut down still scheduled for 11:45am I guess?)

(Edit 2:   10:50am and the site is undergoing early? maintenance.)

I wonder how many posts and posters will be cancelled in the process.

It's well worth reading Sharetraders' T&C's - they're probably not legally enforceable but they highlight the 'thinking' behind the site:

3. Users will not use Sharetrader to advertise or sell products or services (including financial products and services such as securities) to others; or for spamming purposes to promote or encourage members to purchase products, services, or membership recruitment to others; doing so may incur a fee

4. Charge such User a spamming or advertising fee as follows;

1. NZ$1,000 + gst per post, private message or user signature containing or suspected of containing any of the abovementioned in 3.
2. By registering on the forum such User unconditionally and legally agrees to pay any invoice related to spamming (3) sent by Tarawera within 7 (seven) days from the date of invoice.
3. By registering on the Sharetrader Forum such User also unconditionally agrees to pay all collection costs, legal costs and any associated costs incurred and recovery of any debt.

Termination of Agreement and/or Service
Nothing in this Agreement prohibits Tarawera from terminating a Users access to any of the services provided by Sharetrader or terminating the Sharetrader site altogether without notice and for any reason.

Real friendly, eh.

To be fair ... I remember the share holders association NZSA talked with them some years ago and they said its ok if we use them to provide relevant information about our work and events (which inevitable is as well some sort of promotion).

I guess the idea of these rules is to avoid various advisors / consultants and similar to use the forum to market their services for personal gain.

Not sure, I do see what's so terrible about these rules ... and I never heard about them being applied anyway.

Did you?

Yes they have - in two words:  Fat Portfolio.

Interesting. Not sure though, how above rules would have worked in that case. Are you able to enlarge on that?

Hmmm, that's not really my story to be telling.  However; my access to NZ Sharetrader was "terminated" at that time.  Apparently I remain on the members list but I can't access my account and I got no replies to my emails requesting an explanation.  I can assume my heinous crime was in joining Fat P.

Not sure. Many were on both forums without having to suffer strange and unusual punishments.

Unless you attacked the moderator or something similar, maybe it was just one of their quite frequent IT glitches (including finger trouble). Not sure their IT system and processes arrived already in this century.

I lost access to 'the other site' (ShareTrader.co.nz) a couple of weeks back when I changed my password and tried to update my email address. Can view most forums, but not post or anything else.

I haven't been able to get a response from the site operator. Tried creating a new account (not a sock puppet!), but that also has the same limited access issue.

It seems account verifications are broken, and the operator is AWOL.

I'm starting to wonder if that site is zombified, and whether it's a matter of time before it goes offline completely.

I better not comment lol

This website is considerably better than the other channel in these areas: stability, smoothness of experience, feature set, aesthetic. The only thing better on the other channel is volume (posters and posts). The reason I think for not posting on here but posting on the other one is not knowing about this one.
~~ I thought I was a genius but couldn't follow simple instructions. I find it hard to work with others and accept the idea someone can have a different opinion to mine, now all I am is a distant meeeemooorrrryyyyyy (ghost sounds) ~~
