Jee - no Briscoes thread. Rod would be disappointed so I'll start one

Briscoes sales still going well - Q3 up 27% on pcp

Briscoes seem to have out of covid in a better place than if the world had just continued as normal - annual sales ahead of pre covid trend. Sales have grown at 6.3% pa since Jan 2019 - pretty respectable even allowing for a bit of inflation

Here's how I see their sales going --- can't really see any reasons by they shouldn't continuing to grow

Must admit its a master class in marketing, (although Turners got the top award most recently).
Rod Duke has for a very long time done an excellent job at hoodwinking the N.Z. public into thinking they are getting great value when they have a sale that seems to happen at least once a week, often more frequently.

Here's the shopping code for Briscoes for anyone not already aware of it.  Sale prices, you are paying full retail price and Briscoes are doing very nicely from your purchase.  Pay their normal "retail" price when something is not on sale and you are literally a lamb to the slaughter in terms of how Briscoes are price gouging you.  Basically consumers by and large are pretty gullible, and Rod Duke has built an excellent business selling mid-priced goods at full retail conning people they are getting good value.  The volume of good sold when not on so called sale is just icing on the cake.

That said the downtrend in the chart is intact and I can foresee as households' finances come under more pressure consumers demanding more value from the likes of K Mart who are expanding and Costco. The fact is Briscoes does not have the excellent growth opportunities that Glassons Au has and is reliant on the sluggish N.Z. retail spend which as higher interest rates really start to bite doesn't look like a great place to be.  Accordingly, I expect the downtrend to continue.

Surely a bell weather stock for NZ and a long term hold rather than a trade.. Some big swings lately but its strong contender for blue chip retail in NZ...

everything you need for the party .... and other occasions...

Briscoes out of favour at the moment as share price sinks to what it was 2 years ago

But then most retail stocks a bit soft ... maybe a sign of the times .... a bit ominous if Briscoe is seen as a 'bell weather stock'

The 475 does seem a long way down from the 7 bucks it was not that long ago

Unfortunately for Briscoes they do not have the benefits of a fast growing Australian store network like HLG.

The marketing awards judges said "WE LOVE TINA".  Love her or not, annoying marketing can also be effective marketing  8)
Tammy doing a fabulous job at looking good for her age but maybe they need someone younger ?

BRIS for ever!!!

yes they need a TINA...

"there is no alterinative"....

banks and business will face some heavy lifting in the debt markets next year but with NZ going T1 17 and KANGA banks refi next year retail may finally face some head winds as banks face tough choices about margins and lending.

with house prices under pressure on both side of the ditch MR B's forecasts may need a fine adjustment for FY 24-25.

but thats getting a bit far ahead ..

Rare day at Briscoes yesterday. 50% off everything!. Normally they restrict their bargains to parts of the store.

(Does anyone buy on a non-sale day?)

It's a bit of a worry when the guy from Jarden "is expecting Briscoe to give up about half of the covid margin gains over the next couple of years."

Jeez that's 3% points

On $800m of sales if that guy is right that 3% has an adverse impact of $20m to $25m

Hope they selling heaps more and keeping expenses under control

Update soon .....hope Rod adds more colour to this then.

But could be why share price is on a downhill slide.
